60th Anniversary Annual Appeal
Dear Families, Friends, and Supporters,
As we celebrate Roxbury Weston Preschool’s 60th year, I am filled with pride and joy for this remarkable milestone. Sixty years of strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to diversity. For over 20 years, generations of my family have chosen Roxbury Weston as the place for their children to learn and grow. This program has provided a nurturing, diverse environment that my own children, like those before them, have thrived in, reflecting what makes this community so special.
On April 23, 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. led a march from Roxbury to the Boston Common, where he delivered a powerful speech addressing the issues of de facto segregation and inequality in American schools. His words inspired families from Roxbury and Weston to come together to create a preschool where diversity and academic excellence were celebrated. The success of the Roxbury Weston Preschool played a key role in convincing the town of Weston to join the METCO program in 1967, a state-run voluntary desegregation initiative. As a Weston-METCO alum, I have experienced directly the powerful connection between Roxbury and Weston. My family has continued this tradition, benefiting from the program’s richness and the unity it fosters between the two communities. Today, many of our Roxbury-Weston graduates transition into Weston Public Schools through METCO, just as I once did.
Roxbury Weston Preschool remains the longest running, integrated educational program in the country because of its incredibly supportive community. For six decades, this community has stood together, helping us grow and thrive, fulfilling the vision that all children—no matter what they look like—can learn, grow, and succeed together.
As we look toward the future, we are committed to ensuring that this legacy continues for generations to come. The funds we raise through our Annual Appeal enable us to offer scholarships, provide free transportation for our Boston students, and ensure that all children—no matter where they live—have access to the preparation needed for a top-tier education, along with enriching social interactions that help them grow both academically and personally. Your support helps us build on this foundation, allowing us to continue providing a nurturing and diverse learning environment for every child.
As we celebrate 60 years of excellence, we have set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 to ensure the continued success of Roxbury Weston Preschool. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to this goal and helps sustain the programs that make our school such a special place. Roxbury Weston has thrived for six decades because of the generosity and dedication of supporters like you, and with your help, we can continue this legacy for future generations.
Thank you for being a part of this journey and thank you again for your continued support of Roxbury Weston Preschool. We look forward to another 60 years.
